Safety Information

  • Keep children away from the operating area.
  •
  • Shut off the mower if children enter the mowing area.
  •
  • Before backing up, look behind and down for children or pets.
  •
  • Do not allow children to ride on the mower.
Lawn mowing equipment injures or kills many people every year. Sadly, these people would not have become a statistic if they had observed some common sense rules when operating their equipment. First and most important, never allow children to operate mowing equipment. Their diminutive size limits them in safely operating most mower controls. Their inexperience and reaction time creates accidents, especially tip over, that adults can easily avoid. Never allow children or other passengers to ride on any part of the mower. Mowers provide many safety features for the operator, but this product is not built for passengers. Never mow in an area where children or pets are present. It is their general nature to chase after the mower while it is in operation. In addition to the possibility of backing into them, there is a danger of their being injured by foreign objects being ejected from under the mower deck by a turning blade. As a rule, people, especially children, should not be allowed near the mowing equipment while it is in operation. Don't be the person responsible for causing an injury to someone else, or for damaging someone's property.

Basic Safety Information

Be completely familiar with "how to" operate the mower before use. Read and understand the mower Operator's Manual. Know the controls, especially how to stop the mower in an emergency. Follow all published safety precautions and safety warning decals found on the equipment before mowing.

  • Dress properly before using the mower. Wear close fitting pants or slacks, long sleeve shirts, leather shoes, and eye and hearing protection. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught in moving parts on the mower. To avoid entanglement in moving parts, long hair should be worn up, or tucked into a cap, especially where the mower's engine is behind the operator.
  •
  • Handle fuel carefully. Never add fuel when the engine is hot. Fuel should always be added before the job is started while the engine is still cold..or allow the engine to cool off before adding fuel. Never smoke while adding fuel. Do not add fuel where sparks or open flame may be present. Store fuel in DOT approved containers, and always store in a cool area.
  •
  • Keep hands and feet away from moving mower components, especially the mowing blades. Always stop mower travel, set the parking brakes, shut off the mower deck PTO, stop the engine and remove the ignition key, before dismounting the mower or leaving it unattended. Never service or attempt repairs while the equipment is running. Do not attempt to unclog the mower deck, or empty grass collector bags, until the mower is completely stopped and shut off, with the parking brakes engaged.
  •
  • Do not remove or alter safety shields, guards, or the discharge deflector. Safety shields and guards are provided for your safety and the safety of others. Never operate the mower with missing or removed shields or guards. Any alteration in original design, or the intentional removal of a safety shield or guard, is the sole responsibility of the person(s) that made the alteration, both from a product warranty standpoint, and for any legal consequence that may arise from said unauthorized modification or guard removal. Always mow with the discharge deflector in place and closed or down. Operating without, or with the deflector up, will increase the distance that foreign objects are thrown. Pick up all debris and foreign objects before mowing. Objects encountered by the mower blades can be thrown violently creating a serious hazard to bystanders, or damage property in the operating area.
  •
  • Starting and running the engine. Whenever possible, start the engine outdoors. If the unit must be started indoors, move it outdoors immediately. Carbon monoxide from engine exhaust is a very dangerous gas that can cause permanent injury or death, if allowed to build up in an area where people are present.
  •
  • Operating the mower. Hearing and eye protection is strongly recommended when operating the mower. The operator must remain at the controls, or in the operator's seat, during operation or movement of the mower. Do not allow passengers on the mower. Operate during daylight hours, or when the area is well lit artificially. To avoid tip-over, decrease ground travel speed when making turns or when going downhill. Avoid sudden stops and starts and be extremely careful when operating on rough terrain. Inspect the mower thoroughly after striking any foreign object. Follow all shut-down procedures before inspecting the mower. Repair any damage before resuming mowing operations.

Safe Maintenance

  • Always stop mower travel, set the parking brakes, shut off the mower deck PTO, stop the engine and remove the ignition key, before dismounting the mower, leaving it unattended, or attempting any repair, service or maintenance.
  •
  • Keep the mower and mowing deck clean. Dry grass build-up on top of the deck can lead to fires and small branches on the deck top can cause drive belt damage. Make sure the floor plate and control levers are thoroughly cleaned of grease, oil, or other debris, that may lead to loss of operating control or a falling injury.
  •
  • Do not work under the unit unless it is securely supported by a floor jack, hoist and jack stands with sufficient capacity to support the weight of the mower.
  •
  • Always wear safety glasses when servicing the mower. Wear gloves when sharpening or handling mowing blades.
  •
  • Make sure all safety shields, guards, and the discharge deflector, are in place following any service work.

Transporting & Storage

  • The EverRide mower does not conform to government traffic regulations, and should not be driven on public roads or highways.
  •
  • Use an SMV (Slow Moving Vehicle) sign when operating near or while crossing public roadways.
  •
  • Make sure the unit is completely cleaned, serviced and lubricated before long term storage. Repaint all bare metal areas to lessen the chance of rust or corrosion while in storage.

Carelessness and lack of attention while operating a mower is the leading cause of accidents that result in property damage, personal injury, and accidental death. Any lawn mower, by the very nature of its design and intended purpose, is a dangerous machine. However, if this equipment is understood and respected, operated attentively and safely, there is little chance that you'll become, or contribute to another statistic.
